How does jersey shore influence teenagers

Ok… I have to admit I have seen Jersey Shore. And, at one point, I made it a habit to watch the first season. For me, reality TV shows spark my interest in the beginning, but then slowly, as the seasons start getting repetitive, I move on.

This false reality, for some reason, draws kids our age in. Maybe some people like the humor of it all, or they want to lead a life free of consequences and full of pointless drama. Sadly, I feel it will be a couple years before this trend fades out, but I am crossing my fingers.

Yeah, Jersey Shore has been on the screen at home a couple of times. I tend to just walk past it, but for those few moments I get distracted, I am always in for a hilarious treat! They act like such freaks! Still, as little as it has to do with my social life, it is a warm reminder that I am not a complete jerk who gets away with doing whatever. It in no way inspires me to have that kind of lifestyle, and if anything, it has curbed my desire to go party hopping with all the drinking and stuff.

They took that ideal nightlife thing that kids are so obsessed with, and showed how boring and ignorant you have to be to actually live like that. The characters are ridiculous and the things they do set bad examples. I have seen so many changes with my friends who watch Jersey Shore. But something good that I have seen come out of them watching Jersey Shore is that even though they are being completely disrespectful when they are talking about girls behind their backs, the boys are more confident then ever.

They truly believe if they put the Jersey Shore moves on these girls they will win out and sadly sometimes they do.

But in their everyday lives I can tell they are more open and willing to converse with girls on campus. So I guess some good has come out of it. I am a little worried about what you say, Devan.

I have no problem with having fun, but keep it in perspective. If some guy is not treating you, or your friends, the way he should, you should stay away from him. Have some self-respect. Almost as soon as the women arrive in their designer clothes, the wine, catty remarks and tears begin to flow. Throughout the booze-fueled dinner, the women accuse each other of spreading rumors, and the yelling and finger-pointing ensue.

Reality television is a huge part of our television viewing culture. However, how do children and adolescents understand the world of reality TV? What could reality TV be teaching adolescent girls, in particular, about what is valued in the real world? And, how does it affect their attitudes, beliefs, self-image and behavior? Plastic surgery shows such as Botched , as well as the former Dr. Many cast members of other reality shows, such as The Real Housewives franchise, are very open about their numerous plastic surgeries.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians features the life of a family that spends a great deal of time and money on appearance, with a consequent rise in fame and popularity of its girls and women.

They take extravagant trips, wear designer clothes, spend a lot of money on alcohol-fueled parties, and are rarely seen working regular jobs.

The cast of The Jersey Shore spends an entire summer binge drinking to excess, participating in risky sexual behavior, engaging in physical altercations, and even being arrested. Despite their obvious poor behavior and decision-making, their popularity continues to grow. For anyone who has seen the movie The Bling Ring , this is an extreme example of how emulation of the celebrity and reality TV lifestyle can cause issues in teens.

The teens idealized the party and high-fashion lifestyle that is often featured in gossip magazines and reality TV, and subsequently robbed the homes of celebrities to fuel this lifestyle.
