How do bids work sorority
What sisterhood or philanthropy events do they hold? What kind of academic support do they provide? Use this time to get to know each chapter and ask about things you value. For example, if you value being in an organization that is service oriented, you can ask the member s you meet about the service opportunities provided by the chapter. After each round of recruitment, you get to prioritize which chapters you want to visit the next day.
This can be really easy the first day and can get harder and harder. Maybe you have no clue at all from day one. That is OK. Remember, you have your recruitment counselor to talk through your choices. As you are making decisions, so are the sororities.
This mutual selection process may mean not going back to a chapter you prioritized highly. You may receive an invitation to a chapter you have indicated as a low priority. Consider this an opportunity to get to know the chapter further as they have identified you as someone who fits the values and expectations of their organization.
After a few days of this you get to the last day of recruitment, typically called preference. Time to celebrate, right? Not quite yet. There is one more important thing you will do before leaving recruitment. Once you submit this agreement, you are agreeing to accept a bid from any sorority you have chosen to list on your form. Traditionally that is one year from when you sign the form. The final step to recruitment is Bid Day!
My Rho Gamm, who led me through recruitment, told me that if I only put down one sorority, my chances to get in would be super low. If your heart is set on being in a sorority no matter what, I would recommend putting multiple houses down on your last day and making the most out of whatever happens. Suicide bidding is definitely not a safe option. I just knew where I was comfortable, felt a connection with the girls and went with my gut! After going through a semester of college, she knew she still wanted to be in a sorority and went on to rush Alpha Delta Pi later in the spring.
In conclusion, we encourage you to stay as open minded as possible to give yourself the highest chance of sorority recruitment success. Some might go to dinner with a potential member. The one thing these parties do have in common is that they are a great way to casually meet people and they are always fun. COB happens continuously besides school breaks and formal recruitment. During these time periods, a chapter may hold COB on the days and times they want if they are under the maximum membership total.
All women who are full-time UCA students are eligible to participate as long as they meet 3 conditions…. COB events are held wherever the chapter chooses. They might have an event in their chapter house.
The location of the event is not important, as long as the event is alcohol free and men are not present. There is really no way to tell. Some sororities find themselves eligible and do not extend bids, others will extend a bid as soon as they have room for one person.
Some sororities will have it one year and not the next.
